Winter at Swedetown

Winter at Swedetown usually begins in late November or early December and can last all the way through April. For you winter enjoyment, Swedetown offers:

  • 29km of ski trails groomed daily for both skating and classic styles. This includes 4.5km of trails lit daily until 8 p.m.
  • Two snowshoe trails – details below.
  • Backcountry skiing via an ungroomed 4km Backcountry Loop.
  • Five snowbike loops totaling almost 15km.
  • A sledding hill – fun for all ages.
  • A chalet with bathrooms, a changing room, lounge, and concessions (details below)

Cross Country Skiing

Cross country skiing at Swedetown typically begins in early December and can run through late April or even early May. The 29km of trails are groomed daily for both skate and classic styles. The Swedetown Trails Club uses two snowmobiles and various drags, as well as a Prinoth Husky groomer once the trails have an adequate base.

There are 4.5km of trails lit until 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Snowshoeing

Swedetown has several snowshoeing options. You’ll find maps here.

At the main trailhead on Osceola Road you’ll find the marked Bearpaw Snowshoe Trail with a 2.3km loop and a 3.0km add-on option.

From the M203 Trailhead, explore the 4.8km Creek Snowshoe Trail. Dog companions are allowed.

From the Woodland Trailhead there are 2 miles of dog-friendly packed trails. These are wide enough to hike side by side with a friend.

Snowbiking

There are five snowbike loops that start from the main trailhead, just to the right of the large map. Trails are groomed as needed. You can find maps here.

No dogs are allowed on these trails, but a 2-mile multi-use trail is available at the Woodland Road trailhead.

Sledding

Swedetown maintains a sledding hill for all ages.  Located next to the Swedetown Chalet, there is a smaller hill for the younger children, and a larger hill for the brave ones.  

The hill is lit each evening until 9 pm. The chalet is available for warming and restrooms during normal chalet hours.

Swedetown Chalet

Swedetown Recreation Area has a beautiful Chalet. In all seasons, the lower level is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with restrooms, a changing room, a water-bottle filling fountain and a seating area. 

During the winter season (mid-December through mid-March), the upper level concession, lounge, and membership sales window is open from 10 am – 3 pm Monday through Thursday, 10 am – 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10 am – 5 pm on Sunday.
