Support local trails – if you are able to make a donation to support Swedetown Trails this year, between now and November 29th is the time! Portage Health Foundation has chosen Swedetown Trails as one of several community partners and will boost your donation with a match (up to $200,000 of overall donations).
A Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant has been awarded to Calumet Township to add a parcel on Spruce Street to the Swedetown Recreation Area. STC has a dedicated fund set aside to complete the purchase of this area, to be used for large events and an additional trailhead near town. The total amount needed is not yet secured but getting closer! Your contributions can ensure this area will be available to the public for future generations.
We thank everyone who donated generously during Giving Tuesday last year. Donations were used to improve the driveway and expand parking for busy days. And, big news! With help of your donations, 17 acres were added to Swedetown in the area of the Birch Loop ski trail and Bulltoad singletrack trail.
Other outdoor organizations also participating in Giving Tuesday are Copper Harbor Trails Club, Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, Superior Search and Rescue, and Ahmeek Fire and Rescue.
